Operation

Our operation extends to four Brazilian states located in the northern region, benefiting 20 more localities. Get to know more about how we are present in each of these locations.

Roraima

Roraima state is the company’s headquarters. In São João da Baliza, we have the idealization of our vertical process with the planting of palm, the oil beneficiation power plant and thermal power plants to generate electricity.

The BBF’s project in São João da Baliza aims to create a fully sustainable production chain, in order to promote technical improvements in energy generation, besides bringing economic, social and environmental benefits to the project’s area of influence. So, BBF will include a context larger than simply electricity generation, exercising a fundamental role in the local connection energy-development-environment.

Participating in the auction to supply Boa Vista and connected localities, BBF was the winner supporting two supply projects: a 16MW, biomass and vegetable oil-powered UTE installed in São João da Baliza; and a 57MW one, vegetable oil-powered in Boa Vista. These two power plants have a deadline to start their operations by June 2021.

In Boa Vista, BBF aims a new work front with a project of a soy beneficiation power plant in the capital to complement the fuel supply in the whole state power plants, besides supplying the local market.

Amazonas

In the state of Rondônia, BBF has 10 thermal power plants (UTEs in Portuguese) of the Isolated System, with an installed capacity of approximately 6.5MW. There are several peculiarities in its power plants, most of them due to location and access. Considering that 7 of them are located to the north of the state and the other 3 to the south, the distance between these 2 big groups is over 500 km.

In the first group, located in the Baixo Madeira area, there are 6 UTEs: Calama, Conceição da Galera, Demarcação, Nazaré, Santa Catarina e São Carlos, all belonging to Porto Velho city and the UTE Maici, in Humaitá, Amazonas, is bordered by Porto Velho city. The second group is located in the Baixo Guaporé region. It is composed of the UTE Pedras Negras in São Francisco do Guaporé, the UTE Rolim de Moura do Guaporé in Alta Floresta d’Oeste and the UTE Surpresa in Guajará Mirim.

In this state, we also operate in biodiesel production in partnership with Amazonbio, located in Ji-Paraná city, a place that allows the use of biofuels in the BBF’s own thermal power plants and the commercialization with local distributors.

Amazonas

In a consortium, BBF participated and won the Energy Auction 02/2016 presented by ANEEL in two lots of thermal power plants in the state of Amazonas, totalling the energy supply of over 147MW to 32 localities. With average negative goodwill of 22.33%, this represents a saving of R$ 2.5 billion to the Brazilian consumers of electricity in the whole country.

Among the winning power plants, six will be entirely managed by BBF Belém do Solimões, Envira, Estirão do Equador, Feijoal, Ipixuna and Palmeiras do Javari; and two of them will be administered by the consortium: Atalaia do Norte and Tefé. Envira has been operating since April/2019 and seven more power plants will start their operations by the end of 2019.

Envira and Ipixuna are located to the south of Amazonas state, in the River Juruá basin. Belém do Solimões and Feijoal are in Alto Solimões and belong to indigenous communities. While Estirão do Equador and Palmeiras do Javari, in Alto Solimões as well, are border areas, isolated locations where military and their families live. Atalaia and Tefé are two municipalities more developed with notable region importance.

In Amazonas, besides thermal power plants, there is a project of a biodiesel production plant in implementation in Zona Franca de Manaus. Taking advantage of the increased consumption in the market and the new BBF’s enterprises, the biodiesel producer with an initial capacity of 100m³/day can now propel the socio-economic and environmental development of the region.

Acre

In Acre, BBF is present in four municipalities of the isolated system with their power supply: Marechal Thaumaturgo, Porto Walter, Santa Rosa do Purus e Jordão, with an installed capacity of approximately 11.6MW.  The biggest challenge in this state is the river access to the thermal power plants, which are made by the rivers Juruá, Purus e Tarauacá. During drought periods , navigability becomes restrict or even impossible, which makes logistic difficult regarding materials and equipment shipping, and most fuel, that needs to be stored so that any power interruptions will not occur in these localities.

BBF is always supported by the sustainability tripod, focusing on economic and energetic efficiency, and mitigation of environmental and social impacts. The company seeks to bring improvements to communities, using for example biodiesel and generator devices that contribute to attenuate noise.
